Donations of (clean) spring clothes can be brought to the Chaplaincy Centre Monday March 16 and Tuesday March 17.

Students are invited to come Wednesday March 18 and Thursday March 19 for free clothes.

Everything that isn't picked up will go to the Free Store in Charlottetown or Summerside on Friday March 20.

The UPEI Health & Wellness Centre is going to offer a weekly walk-in clinic on Thursdays, from 4-7:00 pm.  We will take the first 20 patients who present in person only.  You can pick up your number beginning at 3:30 pm.  The walk-in clinic is for uncomplicated and less complex and single health issues that can be addressed in brief appointments.  The clinics are for students as well as faculty, staff, and families (minor children, spouse or partner).  You must present your provincial health card or proof of international insurance or you cannot be seen.

A UPEI research group is seeking participants for a study to test a new method for assessing head injuries. Participants must be aged 16 to 27 years of age. The team is looking for participants in the following categories:

• Healthy people (non-concussed, no known chronic diseases)
• People who have had a concussion within the last 36 hours
• People who have had concussion symptoms for longer than three months but less than six months
• People who have had a bone fracture within the last 36 hours
• Boxers active in competition

You are invited to attend a research talk from Dr. Deniz Duruiz (Northwestern University), Candidate for the tenure track position, Department of Sociology and Anthropology entitled "Workers' Guardian, Bosses' Henchman: Mediating Capitalism, Military Occupation, and Racialization on Turkish Farms".  All are welcome to attend. 

The PEI Symphony Orchestra (PEISO) is hosting a fundraising concert featuring two new Charlottetown residents, including UPEI’s recently appointed assistant professor of piano Magdalena von Eccher. The event takes place in the sanctuary of Charlottetown’s Zion Presbyterian Church, 135 Prince Street, on Saturday, March 14, at 7:30 pm. The concert features von Eccher and Glen Montgomery, both recognized as amongst Canada’s outstanding musicians. The concert will present an array of selections including solo, duet, and trio repertoire in a range of styles.

Tickets are $25 per adult ($20 for PEISO season subscribers) and $10 for students, and can be purchased online at pianoevent.bpt.me/. Proceeds from the event will help support the PEI Symphony Orchestra’s mandate of providing live orchestral music to the province of PEI and fostering growth through educational outreach initiatives. Ethics protocols that involve ‘more than minimal risk’ must be reviewed by the full UPEI Research Ethics Board (REB).  The next deadline for submitting these protocols is Friday March 27, 2020. They will be reviewed at the April meeting.  Protocols involving ‘more than minimal risk’ that are received after March 27, 2020 will be reviewed at the May 2020 meeting.

Other ethics protocol submissions, including new applications that do not involve ‘more than minimal risk’, renewals, and amendments may be submitted at any time. They will be sent for delegated review as soon as all necessary forms are received.

Candidate presentation, Department of Psychology

Jessica Jeong, candidate for the tenure track position with the Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts, will make two public presentations.

The first is entitled "Infant development and maternal health: Evidence from community-based research" and will take place on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at 1:30 pm in Memorial Hall, room 417.

The second is entitled "The promise and pitfalls of working with parents in a clinical setting". This presentation will be held on Friday, March 20, 2020 at 9:00 am in Memorial Hall, room 417.

The Multidisciplinary Faculty Discussion Group on Environmental Issues is hosting a series of brown bag lunch events which aim to showcase UPEI faculty's environment-related research. 

The third speaker in the series is Dr. Pamela Courtenay-Hall, Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Philosophy, speaking on Ecological Identity and Ecological Grief in a Climate-Changing World, Wednesday, March 18, 12:30-1:15 p.m. in SDU Main Building, Room 115. Students, faculty, and staff are all welcome to attend.

First-year and fourth-year students in Arts, Business, Engineering, Nursing, and Science have been invited to fill out the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) to help UPEI improve student experiences.
