Abstract: Accessing quality data is one of the main challenges in data science. Query composition is an important and difficult task for accessing data in database system. This talk will present techniques based on queries performance prediction, data provenance, and data quality assessment for facilitating effective query composition.

Please join Riley Jackson for his Molecular and Macromolecular Sciences Seminar Series presentation on " A Survey of Generative Machine Learning for Molecular Design and Discovery".

Abstract: In less than half a decade generative machine learning has rapidly become a critical tool for artificial creativity, leading to the construction of autonomous systems which generate artificial speech and images with eerily high fidelity. These successes have inspired computational chemists to apply these innovative algorithms to the difficult task of molecular discovery and design. Discovering a novel drug and taking it to market costs over $1 billion, and often takes well over 13 years. Because this process is so costly, reducing false leads is paramount. There is hope that generative machine learning can be used to generate high potential leads with low computational cost, decreasing the chance of false leads. In this seminar a handful of cutting-edge algorithms for molecular generation will be studied along with how molecules are typically represented to autonomous systems.

The UPEI Health & Wellness Centre is going to offer a weekly walk-in clinic on Thursdays, from 4-7:00 pm.  We will take the first 20 patients who present in person only.  You can pick up your number beginning at 3:30 pm.  The walk-in clinic is for uncomplicated and less complex and single health issues that can be addressed in brief appointments.  The clinics are for students as well as faculty, staff, and families (minor children, spouse or partner).  You must present your provincial health card or proof of international insurance or you cannot be seen.

The Faculty of Graduate Studies is excited to be hosting the 3 Minute Thesis competition again this year. We would like to invite everyone to come out and watch the 3 Minute Thesis competition on Wednesday, March 11, in 135 Duffy Science Lecture Theatre, please come join us for pizza and then the competition.

Pizza at 5 pm with the 3MT starting at 5:30pm.

The 3MT is a skills development activity which challenges thesis-based graduate students to explain their research project to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes.
