Please join Riley Jackson for his Molecular and Macromolecular Sciences Seminar Series presentation on " A Survey of Generative Machine Learning for Molecular Design and Discovery".
Abstract: In less than half a decade generative machine learning has rapidly become a critical tool for artificial creativity, leading to the construction of autonomous systems which generate artificial speech and images with eerily high fidelity. These successes have inspired computational chemists to apply these innovative algorithms to the difficult task of molecular discovery and design. Discovering a novel drug and taking it to market costs over $1 billion, and often takes well over 13 years. Because this process is so costly, reducing false leads is paramount. There is hope that generative machine learning can be used to generate high potential leads with low computational cost, decreasing the chance of false leads. In this seminar a handful of cutting-edge algorithms for molecular generation will be studied along with how molecules are typically represented to autonomous systems.
All are welcome to attend!!

Title: Asset Liability Management for Pension Plans
Speaker: Louis Doiron, School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences
Abstract: Pension Plans with their long liability duration have significant interest risk exposure and Asset Liability Management is used to decrease risk while simultaneously increasing portfolio yield, meeting cash flow requirements, and adding positive convexity to the investment portfolio backing up the pension plan liabilities within a given set of risk tolerances and constraints.

A group of fourth year UPEI Foods & Nutrition students are conducting a research project to find out what makes it hard for students to eat well as part of their FN 4340 Community Nutrition course. They are asking UPEI students to complete an online Student Food Survey which asks questions about student's food skills and the food situation in their household. The survey results will help them understand challenges UPEI students face with regards to food insecurity. It will also help them to make recommendations about food based courses and services offered for UPEI students.
Student participation in the research is entirely voluntary. The survey is designed to be anonymous and information will be collected and stored using a secure UPEI server. The survey results will be provided to participants through an emailed summary.
There will be a draw for seven $50 prizes and one grand prize of $100.00 (Superstore gift cards) for completing the survey before midnight March 16. The name you submit for a chance to win a prize will NOT be connected to your survey responses.
Check out the survey at https://health.ahs.upei.ca/student/index.php
